Welcome to Paramount! Can you tell us about your role and what it entails on a day-to-day basis?

I am one of the newcomers about to arrive at Paramount as a result of the sale of Southern Cross Austereo’s television arm down in Tasmania.

It’s going to be business as usual after the acquisition, so I’ll continue writing 10 News updates for the Illawarra and South Coast regions from our office in Hobart. Not only do I write those updates, but I present them as an anchor and am then beamed into the homes of Southern New South Wales to the ACT, Riverina and Central West.

What made you want to get into the world of journalism?

What a great question! I always loved telling stories and writing throughout school, and a brief interest in journalism faded when I took up Psychology at university.

Writing statistics and reports wasn’t the style I enjoyed, so I made a website (justafolio.com and Well Worth Watching on Facebook). It was there I worked on video game and movie reviews, write-ups of a few local surf comps or musical acts, and other topical opinion pieces.

Therefore, when working at the local sandwich and salad bar didn’t cut it for me, I undertook a Masters in Journalism, and now I find myself in front of the camera every day and sharing hyper-local stories to mainland communities.

Who have been your mentors over the years and what lessons have you learnt from them?

I think my trajectory into the industry has been a little atypical, as I’ve been in updates for over three years now and we work very independent and autonomously.

In saying that, I definitely wouldn’t be where I am now without the 10 team who trained me up from nothing, into the handsome and confident person viewers see every hour on their television screens.

Who is the Will Boddy outside of work? What do you love to do on weekends?

My fiancé and I are neck-deep in wedding planning, so we dedicate our weekends to that, which mostly consists of me agreeing to her suggestions. We live right by the beach so I’ll go there more often than not, or head further south and go surfing if and when its pumping.

I’m also a sucker for a bit of housework, gardening or meat smoking when I’m not sitting on the couch playing PlayStation or watching movies.

What are your Top 3 favourite Instagram accounts to follow?

@the28yearoldmale, @NBL and probably just doomscrolling the ‘explore tab’ and watching funny cat videos, recipe ideas and anything else the algorithm throws my way.
