How far into your studies are you?

Jewel: I am about to start University at the University of Sydney.

Bailey: I’m currently enrolled in my third year of Uni at the Queensland University of Technology. I live in Brisbane. I am in a four-year course, so just over halfway. Network 10 is my fourth internship, I previously worked at Qantas in Sydney, Telstra, and Queensland Music Festival.

Tell us a little bit about what you are studying.

Jewel: I am studying Secondary Education, majoring in Ancient History. I chose to study Education as I love teaching kids.

Bailey: I am studying a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and a Bachelor of Communications (Entertainment Industries). I chose this course because I’m really interested in Media and like creative problem-solving with Marketing.

Tell us a bit about your background and where you live.

Jewel: I am Syrian-Aboriginal, and I live at Rooty Hill in Sydney. My Aboriginal lineage is the Wiradjuri tribe of the Murrumbidgee People located in Leeton/Griffith, and I come from a long line of warriors. The Wiradjuri tribe extends past Dubbo (north-west New South Wales) down to Albury/Wodonga (the NSW/VIC border).

My cultures have been thriving despite the hardship they have endured, they have persevered through the acts of kinship and resilience. As a result of being widespread, the Wiradjuri nation has many dialects that make it unique, even has an app that teaches the language.

Bailey: I come from the Wonnerua Mob in NSW. My dad is from Zimbabwe and my Aboriginal connection comes from my Mum’s side. My Mob is based in the Hunter Valley and they speak Awabakal.

For those who don’t know, what is Career Trackers?

Bailey: Career Trackers is an internship program that helps facilitate paid internships for Indigenous students all around Australia. The company provides each student with an advisor who can help with university studies as well as any other additional support needed. The company has been around for 15 years and has over one thousand alumni graduates from the program.

What made you choose Paramount Australia/Network 10 for your internship?
