Congratulations on your nomination! How does it feel to make the shortlist?
It was a such wonderful surprise. I was extremely humbled to be nominated, but to make the shortlist I am incredibly honoured, especially to be place among so many other talented peers in the media industry. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and Paramount for putting me forward. The support has been overwhelming and I am very grateful for this recognition.
What is your current role and what does it entail?
I am the Corporate Communications Executive in the PR and Communications team, looking after both external and internal communications across the business. I liaise directly with trade media, securing opportunities to showcase the exciting news from Paramount, which covers everything from new partnerships to the launch of a new program and everything in between. My role also includes executing the social strategy for the corporate Linkedin and Twitter accounts, organising photoshoots, project managing internal initiatives such as the launch of Paramount+, Global Inclusion Week, staff activations like Wellness Week and R U OK Day? and much more.
What are you most proud of in your career so far?
Making the shortlist for the 30 Under 30 awards is a very proud moment.
Aside from that, there are a number of things I am really proud of in my career, including my work on the B&T Changing the Ratio, Global Inclusion Week, NAIDOC Week, R U OK? Day and Virtual Wellness Week, because these projects support greater diversity and promote mental health and wellbeing as a priority in the workplace, which are all values that are very important to me.
What qualities do you think you need to have for a successful PR career?
Tenacity, adaptability, creativity and the ability to be collaborative. In our fast-paced industry, everything is constantly changing, you need to be planning for every situation, adapting to change and think outside the box.
Being a 30 under 30 nominee is a huge achievement. Where do you see yourself in five years?
I am passion advocate for working on meaningful projects that make a difference, encourage difficult conversations and add value to the work I do. I thrive in environments that challenge me and I am looking forward to continue to grow and work on meaningful projects in the next five years.
What advice would you give to others starting out in PR?
My biggest advice would be to intern at PR agencies, volunteer at PR events and get as much experience as you possibly can. I thoroughly enjoyed my time interning all those moons ago and if it wasn’t for my internship at 10, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Who are your role models/mentors?
The one and only, Catherine Donovan, our VP Publicity and Communications. She is my biggest supporter and I’m very lucky to call her my mentor. Cat has such a great depth of knowledge and experience of the media industry. I admire her work ethic, ability to multi-task and always have time for others, especially when she is incredibly busy. There is truly no one better to learn from.
Most importantly, when they turn your life into a TV series, who would play you?
It’s a toss-up between Ali Wong and Lana Condor. Ali Wong is one of my favourite comedians, so if you haven’t already seen any of her work, do yourself a favour and watch one of her three Netflix comedy specials. Lana Condor stole my fangirl heart when she starred in To All The Boys I Loved Before and she has a great name! But is it too much of a coincidence that we share the same name? Or is that just perfect? I’ll leave that up to the future casting directors to decide.
