Oh hey, Dan. Good to see you!
Dan (the man) Morrison is the Senior Programming Manager – Streaming for Paramount+. Friend of The Water Cooler, Dan Morrison sat down with our Editor over a negroni and French ham and pear crostini to talk all things content, careers and bold hats.
Tell us about your role.
My role is Senior Programming Manager – Streaming for Paramount+, which means I work with our international teams on planning all our amazing US and International content that comes through our pipeline, and with local teams to plan launches around our brand-new Paramount+ Original series as well as work with our local acquisitions team to find titles that complement and round out our content offering on the platform.
What do you love about your role and working at P+?
I love content – I think that needs to go without saying in this kind of role. I watch a lot of content as part of this job, so if I didn’t it enjoy it, it would indeed be a slog! I also like seeing people fall in love with shows and talk passionately about them (even if I disagree!).
What have been your proudest achievements professionally and personally?
Seeing our local originals come to life over the years is always a proud moment. I’ve worked across MTV, Comedy Central and now Paramount+, so I have worked with a lot of fun and creative people on a variety of projects. It’s always a nice moment seeing our originals hit the screen and audiences embrace it.
In my personal life, does moving in with your partner and staying together count?
Tell us about the Paramount+ team? What makes them tick? And how are they all so stylish?
What makes them tick? Possibly the office lighting in the marketing area, or when I must break the news to them that the US have shifted a premiere date of a new show. I feel like the bearer of bad news all too often.
On the style front, I would say Lauren Downie is leading the charge there but quite a few team members rock a good piece in the office. Can’t wait to see someone try a bold hat in the near future!
Who is the Dan Morrison outside of Paramount+? What do you love to do on weekends?
For anyone who has spoken to me for more than five minutes knows I’m a Real Housewives fanatic, so if you are as well, please come talk to me at any moment of the day!
When I’m not chatting reality TV, I love a glass of wine and good conversation with friends at a nice restaurant. If I’m home, I like to make pasta from scratch like I’m living a Stanley Tucci fever dream.
Finally, what’s your favourite show to watch on P+ and what’s the best show yet to come?
As I said, I watch a lot. I categorise my shows in tiers, my favourites that are currently streaming are Yellowjackets, The Betoota Advocate Presents, Tulsa King, The Challenge (to name a few) and I also like dipping into old episodes of Broad City & The Hills. As for what’s to come, it’s next month’s Taylor Sheridan series Special Ops: Lioness – Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, spies, espionage – need I say more?
