Happy 10th Birthday, Studio 10!

October 30, 2023

Happy Birthday, Studio 10! Join Ang, Tristan and Daniel Doody tomorrow morning as they celebrate their 10th birthday!

Studio 10’s Executive Producer, Raj Wakeling, said: “Ten years on air is a huge achievement, and we can’t wait to celebrate in classic Studio 10 style!

“This special episode will be the perfect snapshot of all the fun we have helping Aussies make the most of their mornings.

“I’m so proud of our team and excited to mark this important and impressive milestone”.

Meanwhile, The Water Cooler caught up with some of the hosts to get their most loved moments from the show.

Congratulations on turning 10! What are your Top 3 highlights from your time on Studio 10?

Ang:

  • Crossing live from Windsor Castle in the middle of the night after Meghan and Harry’s wedding, only to have two drunk girls crash my cross and sing Hot Stuff by Donna Summer before police gently escorted them away.
  • The time I learned live on air that my family’s term for fish’n’chips, ‘F’n’Cs’, has another meaning, one that’s not really appropriate for morning television.
  • When Harrison Ford shared his thoughts about Donald Trump with me ahead of his election in 2016. Comments that went straight from Studio 10 to the evening news on CBS, NBC and ABC in the States.

Tristan:

  • I got to interview Warwick Davis which will always be Number 1. I grew up with Willow, it was my favourite film as a kid. Then I got to do a Junket with him for Disney’s TV series sequel.
  • Interviewing Matthew McConnaughey and reliving the times he worked in my hometown on Reign Of Fire – my best mate was a stunt man on the film. We spoke about my local and the town and the people he remembered from that time. He spoke off-air before the record and stuck around after the record to talk football. It was awesome.
  • And Celestine got me a personalised message from Elmo! As I can kid, Jim Henson was everything to me and Sesame Street was everything along with Willow and The Labyrinth. So it wasn’t so much Elmo but more the link and the throwback.

Doody:

  • Sarah Harris convinced me to sing the weather update to the tune of ‘It’s Raining Men’ during the height of the pandemic. The messages I received telling me how much joy that brought to our viewers was incredibly heart-warming to read.
  • Showing a great deal of empathy and sensitive reporting during the 2022 Lismore Floods – the resilience of the community was truly inspiring to see.
  • Meeting the beautiful people of Samoa and having the opportunity to explore the country.

What about your proudest moment working on Studio 10?

Ang: I think I’m most proud that we can pivot and handle anything that happens while we’re live on air. One of the reasons live TV is so compelling, is you never know what’s going to happen. Over the years we’ve handled everything from Rocky Horror Show star Nell Campbell dropping the F-bomb to the death of important world figures like Nelson Mandela live on air.

Doody: It’s really hard to pinpoint. I think my proudest moment is coming into work every day and making people smile on and off air it’s one of my many talents.

Tristan: My kids came on and performed a song for my birthday. Also, my wife Tahyna co-hosted a few times, which was unreal! Personally, I think having come on with no experience, I embraced being uncomfortable and learning the trade.

What’s the best thing about coming to work every day?

Doody: Knowing that I am brightening someone’s day, by being my joyful self and spreading positive vibes. Plus, the people I work with on air and off are just awesome to work with – we always have such a good laugh.

Ang: The best thing about coming to work each day is working with our amazing team, and knowing we can make a little difference in the lives of our audience watching at home, or on the train or wherever they are. Maybe give them a giggle if they’re feeling down, or inspire them with an interview with someone who has made it through a tough time, or wow them with an incredible performance from one of our musical guests.

You’ve had some incredibly famous faces on the show over the years. Who is yet to visit the show that you’re desperate to chat to?

Doody: Wouldn’t it be fun interviewing Meryl Streep?! My dream is to star alongside her in a sci-fi movie. Who knows, maybe one day?

Tristan: I don’t put much thought of value into celebrity or status of any of our guests. I suppose it’s mad to think you are speaking to people you grew up idolising or reading about. But a great story is a great story no matter who is involved in it. And, it’s great to meet everyday heroes, sharing their stories here, so they are the ones being celebrated. That being said, Paul Hogan or John Farnham would be a treat. I secretly hoped at some stage I would have got the chance to speak with them!

We see everything that goes to air, but you have an incredible team behind the scenes as well. Tell us a bit about the Studio 10 family as a whole.

Doody: Behind the scenes is so much fun. Everyone works incredibly hard but, when we have a bit of down time it’s just constant banter and laughter.

Tristan: The environment of the team, the hard work doesn’t go unnoticed, and we are lucky that we have a team that works as a team for the team goal. That’s producers and crew – I much prefer a team environment to work in and we got lucky with how that was assembled.

Ang: The Studio 10 family is incredible. Not only are they a tight knit, fast-moving, professionally amazing group, but we’ve also been there for each other for massive life milestones. We’ve had the magic moments of marriages and babies, and sadly some devastating losses too including our beautiful Jono Coleman. Our annual team awards are called the Jonos in his honour. The team, the show and the heartfelt messages from Studio 10 viewers were part of what helped me start to get back on my feet after I lost my beautiful husband Pete.

Finally, how will you be celebrating?

Doody: Just plenty of reminiscing with my Studio 10 family, most likely at the local pub!

Ang: The best way we know how, with a great show full of surprises.
